MADISON (WKOW) — Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison opened its second Family Room in Wisconsin at the Rogers Behavioral Health East Madison Clinic on Friday.

The new space will support families whose children are receiving mental health treatment. It offers a place for caregivers and siblings to stay during the day while their child receives care.

“This new partnership is especially close to my heart,” said Stephanie Hayden, CEO of RMHC-Madison. “I know what it’s like to love someone who needed this kind of care – the loneliness of sitting in a waiting room, or a parking lot, or nearby coffee shop – just trying to be close, to help, to hold it together.”

Caregivers are often required to stay on-site while their child receives outpatient care, which can lead to missed work, limited access to food and emotional fatigue. The Family Room provides snacks and drinks, remote workspaces, entertainment options and quiet spaces to recharge.

“I know how much it would have meant to have a place like this,” Hayden said. “This new Family Room is for the parents, the siblings, the caregivers, and the loved ones who show up every single day, even when it’s hard. Our team is ready to sit with you, hold your hand, listen, and just be there for whatever you need.”

The collaboration expands RMHC-Madison’s mission of keeping families close by offering a welcoming and supportive environment during mental health treatment.
