Community Healthcore invites the community to a free awareness event from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center in Longview.

Community Healthcore’s annual Children’s Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities Awareness Event aims to bring the community together to learn, connect and support a meaningful cause, according to the organization.

This community-wide event is free thanks to the support of the Community Healthcore Foundation. The event will feature games, face painting, crafts, vendors, food, door prizes and resources.

Its primary goal is to raise awareness and offer support for children with mental health and developmental needs.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for families, educators, and community members to connect with vital resources and collaborate to promote the well-being of all,” said Patti Brady, community development specialist.

The event is part of a broader effort to recognize May as Mental Health Awareness Month, as declared by Harrison County Judge Chad Sim.

As noted in Sims’ proclamation, mental health is essential to overall health, and early support and intervention can make a huge difference in children’s lives.

The Children’s Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities Awareness Event is hosted by Community Healthcore, the local mental health and intellectual and developmental disabilities authority serving Harrison County and eight other East Texas counties.

Community Healthcore and various organizations will be available at the event to share information about the services they offer.

Community Healthcore provides a 24/7 crisis helpline, outpatient and inpatient behavioral health care, prevention programs, skills training, primary care, and support for children and adults — all for the purpose of helping people lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
