LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Hundreds of motorcycle engines revved at the state Capitol this afternoon as the Rolling Thunder Freedom Ride arrived.
This is the fifth year in a row the local Rolling Thunder chapter has brought its demonstration to mid-Michigan.
Organizers say they are hoping to raise awareness to the ongoing veteran mental health crisis and honor missing soldiers.
“There is a dark room that we as veterans can get into and it’s really hard to find the light,” said Marvin Dunbar, Rolling Thunder chaplain. “We want our politicians to understand that we need to continue supporting mental health and the VA benefits that are afforded to our veterans. It is so critical to keep everybody positive in society.”
Dunbar said the rain had some impact on their numbers, but he believes there were around 200 bikes in their fleet.
