FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Fort Wayne Police Department was on scene at a home on the northwest side of the city in response to a mental health crisis.

According to a release from the Fort Wayne Police Department, around 11:30 a.m., a resident in 2700 block of Washington Center Road returned home and found the door to the home barricaded from the inside. Officers responded to assist the homeowner.

While checking inside, officers located an adult male barricaded inside a bedroom, and the adult male said he was armed, police said. The Emergency Services Team (EST), Air Support Unit (ASU), and Crisis Response Team (CRT) were requested to assist.

According to police, officers were able to make contact with the male and locate a recently recorded video of him. Police said based on the video, the limited communication and his prior history, officers determined he was experiencing a mental health crisis.

Around 4:20 p.m., police tell WANE 15 the barricaded subject was successfully talked out of the home without incident.

He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment related to his mental health crisis.
