CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — With school out for the summer, many parents are bracing for a season that can test patience and routines — and a local mental health counselor says staying calm starts with intentional habits.
Breakthrough Solutions, a mental health-focused organization, says it is committed to helping people “prepare effectively, develop continually, and move confidently” with their mental health.
Lawrence Lovell, a licensed mental health counselor, shared five parenting tips and tools aimed at helping parents stay calm during the summer break:
1. Be mindful of the benefits of staying calm.
2. Have patience with yourself.
3. Recognize how frustration shows up in your body.
4. Reflect, acknowledge and apologize.
5. Preparation and practice.
