TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The Terre Haute community gathered for conversations focused on mental health on Tuesday.
The 2026 Naveen Mental Health Symposium brought together community leaders, health care professionals, educators, advocates and individuals with lived experience. There were discussions on mental health awareness, prevention, access to care, stigma reduction and the impact of social media and technology on mental wellness.
“Kids these days don’t have the skills to be able to know how to interact with each other. And so it leads to anxiety and depression,” said Dr. Darla Hinshaw, a psychiatrist.
“A majority of the patients we work with on a day-to-day basis have had some impact, whether positive or negative, involving social media and electronics,” said Stacy Whitacre, a licensed social worker and youth therapist.
Organizers said the event encouraged dialogue around mental health challenges, highlighting opportunities for collaboration, education and early intervention.
