Preferred Family Healthcare has officially changed its name to Centerstone following a merger involving its parent organization, Brightli.
Centerstone Media and Public Relations Director Rance Burger said the name change comes after Brightli completed a merger in November, leading to the transition of the Preferred Family Healthcare brand to Centerstone.
The organization has maintained a presence in Trenton for nearly three decades. Preferred Family Healthcare began operating in the community in 1997 and moved into a portion of the building at 1628 Oklahoma Avenue in 2000.
Residential treatment services were added in Trenton in 2001. Those services relocated to the Oklahoma Avenue facility in 2007, shortly after Preferred Family Healthcare purchased the building.
In 2020, the organization expanded its local services by adding youth programs for psychiatric rehabilitation clients.
Burger noted that Centerstone recently completed a significant expansion of its Trenton facility. In 2025, the organization celebrated the completion of a $2 million project that primarily focused on expanding residential treatment capacity and increasing services for individuals receiving substance use disorder treatment.
According to Burger, Centerstone is the largest nonprofit behavioral health organization in the United States. The organization employs more than 10,000 team members across 360 locations and provides mental health care, addiction treatment, and social support services. He also described Centerstone as a national leader in operating services for the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
Centerstone’s Foundation works to secure philanthropic support that advances the organization’s mission of providing care and services that improve lives.
To mark the rebranding, Centerstone will host an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony at its Trenton location, 1628 Oklahoma Avenue, on June 10 at 1:30 p.m. The event will feature walking tours of the facility and refreshments for attendees.
