Ochsner Lafayette General and Oceans Healthcare marked the opening of a 62-bed behavioral health clinic in south Lafayette Wednesday.

The facility, Ochsner Behavioral Health Acadiana at 310 Youngsville Highway, will expand access to inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services across the region when it opens to patients on July 7.

The center is a partnership between Ochsner Lafayette General and Oceans Healthcare to increase the availability of high-quality, specialized behavioral health services for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, officials from both organizations said.

It addresses a growing need in the community and allows patients to receive treatment closer to home.

Both also announced that Oceans Behavioral Hospital Broussard will become Ochsner Behavioral Health Acadiana – Broussard, expanding the total inpatient capacity of Ochsner Behavioral Health Acadiana to 100.

The moves comes on the heels of OLG’s most recent Community Health Needs Assessment, which identified mental health along with diabetes and heart disease as key concerns in the community.

“Mental health continues to be one of the most pressing health needs facing our communities,” said Patrick Gandy Jr., Ochsner Lafayette General CEO. “We are filled with hope for the patients and families who will benefit from expanded access to care. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to meeting a critical community need and improving lives across Acadiana.”

Services available at OBHA will include inpatient care, partial hospitalization programs and intensive outpatient programs.
