Working as a mental health professional in prison
Working in Corrections as a mental health professional has it’s challenges. In this video I explore how the culture and the climate of corrections and the public perception of people who perpetrate crime interface with the individuals who provide mental health services in the prison system.

Thank your for the video.
I've been out almost 5 years. I haven't committed any crime for 3.
My problem is my mind keeps coming up with old ideas an just never stops.
Thank you I learned a lot
So crazy but true, people that abuse children I dont feel bad for them, but I see if they punish one they will punish all. So it's no good for either side.
much respect
Thanks for making this!!
Thank you for another video.. Sometimes i wonder if we're ever free.. Florida is horrific, they discriminate by looks even if one has no history of incarceration. It is sad. When i was young and in lock, i met some great people; they were other inmates. They looked out for me. Yet male prison/ jail is much different. It is so horrible that you encountered staff like that, i would have quit. It's so hard to make a difference when the system you work for, is working against positivity. You would really excell in areas / states that are more progressive in mental health awareness. The NAMI led meeting in Fl i went was ran by a man hating woman, so bitter. And I'm a female. I had a friend kill himself, and thank god he never went to one of her meetings, he was a sweetheart. A different meeting was run by former military member, much better and orderly.
As a graduate student pursuing a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Degree, I found this video very helpful. I have a desire in working in working with the prison population so I would love to hear more about your experiences!
Sad story, sometimes I wonder if people even know that the punishment of prison is usually only supposed to involve the loss of freedom not the loss of humanity.
Hi Michelle, I would like you to consider doing a video on how you became a non-judgemental woman. This could involve talking in more detail about social workers philosophy, whether being non-judgemental was inherent to your personality or whether it was a learnt skill, whether it brings you peace etc. I suspect many people including people coming out of prison could benefit from hearing from you on this topic. Kind regards Lincoln
We are in the same field and area and I completely understand where you are coming from! I commute to GA, and I am contracted by GDC and the environment, in regards to staff, can be mentally taxing!
I’m interested in this line of work I obtained my sociology degree a few months ago and I enjoy your passion and advocacy for individuals who have experience with the justice system
Did you say gunning behaviors? What's that?
Hello I want to know what's the pump they gave me to hear voices and mimic my breathing and also heart rate schizophrenia is not real

Middle of the night, struggling with staff, only mental health provider at my facility. I like the company, most of the staff and most of the patients. My struggle is to get support to see people, staff is always so busy.
Thank you
Thank you for your videos! I’m considering this work and it’s really helpful
yall are TOO LATE after somebody ends up in prison. life is for the most part OVER after that! therapists are USELESS!
The whole cho mo mode philosophy. Change what a person is attracted to. Hippie chicks and redheads. There's no fixing that! These people are attracted to something completely different. Psychology will never put that together.
I like that you made this video. I want to be where you were at before. I believe anybody especially tough topic like offenders and many more have the ability to change. But our system prefers to keep people in prison. Just so much stigma. I feel like our society isn’t ready yet to understand. But I’m glad there’s other people out there like you who think the same as me. ❤
Currently getting my M.S. in Recreation Therapy and have been looking into working for corrections facilities. This gave me a better insight. Thank you
