Alan Currie has spent more than three years planning, developing and working behind the scenes to have the mental health condition recognised.

Now, Anxiety Aid International has officially been granted charitable status and entered onto the Scottish Charity Register.

The professional has been drawing on years of experience working with people across South Ayrshire who live with anxiety, overthinking and emotional pressure.

The clinical hypnotherapist has set up the charity in hopes of bridging a gap through awareness, intervention and resources in response to growing concerns over the increasing number of people experiencing anxiety and emotional wellbeing challenges.

He told the Advertiser: “This is a significant milestone, but for me it represents the beginning rather than the finish line.

“What began as an idea, a vision and a desire to help more people affected by anxiety has now become a reality.

“As someone who has spent years working with children, young people and adults affected by anxiety, I have seen first-hand the growing impact it is having on individuals, families and communities.

“Anxiety is affecting more people than ever, while many support services continue to face significant pressures.

“Anxiety Aid International has been created to help bridge that gap through education, awareness, early intervention and practical wellbeing resources.”

In April, he published ‘The Rucksack You Carry’, which he hoped would introduce a simple concept that many people are quietly carrying far more than they realise.

Rather than viewing anxiety as a weakness, Alan explained it as a natural response from a nervous system that has learned to stay on guard.

By breaking this down in a clear, relatable way, the book helps readers make sense of what’s happening inside both their mind and body.

However, the Ayr professional knew that one book just wasn’t enough to cover the depths and patterns of the health condition, so instead wrote a trilogy.

The creation of Anxiety Aid International is intended to work with existing support services and hopes to develop its work across Ayrshire and beyond, providing additional support and education to help people better understand anxiety and improve their wellbeing.

He continued: “The charity’s mission is simple: to help people better understand anxiety, reduce its impact and realise that there is hope, help and support available.

“There have been challenges, setbacks, delays and plenty of hard work behind the scenes, but this makes it all worthwhile.

“If we can help even one person feel less alone, more informed and more empowered to move forward, then we are making a difference.

“This has been more than three years in the making. Seeing Anxiety Aid International officially become a registered charity is a proud moment, but for me this is only the beginning.”
