A Dallas nonprofit that closed because of funding challenges donated its property to mental health and disability services provider Metrocare.

Bryan’s House opened in 1988 and helped children with special needs. Last year, the organization announced it was temporarily closing because of a lack of funding, and it has since permanently closed. Metrocare will use the Bryan’s House building to keep serving children with disabilities and develop a childcare facility for Metrocare employees.

“Metrocare is honored to carry forward the legacy of Bryan’s House,” said Tate Ringer, interim CEO of Metrocare. “Their work has been a vital part of Dallas’ support system for children with complex needs.”

The property will be called “Bryan’s House powered by Metrocare,” and the playground at Metrocare’s nearby Hillside Campus will be called “The Bryan’s House All Ability Playground.”

Metrocare will also expand early childhood intervention and autism therapy programs, as well as a summer camp for kids with disabilities and their siblings.

The Rees-Jones foundation helped support the transfer of the building.

“We believed that it was essential for a solution to be created so that families would have expanded access to therapeutic services,” said Terese Stevenson, president of Rees-Jones Foundation.

Metrocare is Dallas County’s largest provider of mental health, developmental disability and permanent supportive housing services. The organization serves more than 50,000 people each year.
