MAID should not be allowed solely for mental illness, committee recommends
A parliamentary committee has determined medical assistance in dying (MAID) should not be made legal for people whose sole underlying condition is a mental illness.
It has been 10 years since MAID was legalized in Canada, with more than 76,000 people having used it to end their lives during that span.
Global’s David Akin explains what led to the recommendation and how likely the federal government is to accept that conclusion.

Is Global upset that MAID was not extended to those suffering from mental health issues.
I find it interesting that in a country that has abortion.We are willing to end an innocent life.But not willing to end lifelong suffering for the mentally ill. Bodily autonomy is the argument for murdering an innocent human life.But bodily autonomy cannot be the argument for ending human suffering. Strange morality for this country indeed.
Please leave after people if they don't want to live it is their choice why you guys in power wants to control everything?

Uh look, uh, let me uh be clear ehhh um, the world is more dangerous and divided, uhhh there’s a uhh umm rupture, and um the economy is in um a um transformation. There’s challenges and um issues, if i um can put it that way. And um to get back to your point smirk we need to catalyze industries at their core for uhhh um more synergy.
And to take it um further, ummmm, the economy has ummm uhhh indicators ummm, that umm, show signs of umm a technical recession, but canada is the second fastest growing in the g7 showing real resilience.
All this at the cost of the taxpayer? I dont want my taxes used for killing.
I’m generally against maid. Some situations that seem straightforward, could include complexity that we are not aware yet. So we would never be 100% confident in ending someone’s life, even if everyone ‘agrees’.
This will not help to prevent death, it just prevents us from having dignity during and after death.

The problem often isn't "just" mental illness that makes people turn to MAiD, it's the grinding, soul destroying and inhumane poverty that the disabled face in Canada.
I am alone with no family with mutiple painful degenerative physical disabilities and am in my sixties. 😬
I want the option for MAID (medical assistance in dying) so when my pain can no longer be managed, I can decide when its enough.
Also if I develope dementia or alzheimers, with both no one to represent me or any quality of life, I want the option for MAID.
I think Doctors who have been treating a patient for multiple years, has a far better understanding of a persons mental state then some random, secondary doctor aka Psychiatrist in the out patient department in a emergency room. (speaking from experience)
