Astria Toppenish Hospital opening new behavioral health unit
Now yesterday Astriaish Hospital hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for opening of their new behavioral health unit and our reporter Aiden Colin was in attendance. Aiden tell us more. Well JKO Astria Topenish Hospital received a significant amount of funding to make this new behavioral unit possible. The new unit more than doubled their previous number of beds and provides a wider range of opportunities for those in the Yakima Valley in need of behavioral health care. Take a look. As the behavioral health services provided at Estria Tapenish Hospital continue to grow and flourish, the clinic is growing with it. In 2024, we served uh over 80 patients in our program. And with opening of our new unit, it um doubles our capacity and allows us to um offer critically needed behavioral health services to additional Washington state residents. The behavioral health team takes a personalized approach aimed towards giving the patient a comforting and welcoming environment to discuss what they have been through. We use a trauma-informed approach. So rather than than asking a patient um what’s wrong with you, we ask what happened to you? Hospital administrator Kathy Bambrick says the hospital has received significant funding for their expansion. Uh we were able to achieve um and received $8.6 million for this project which is outstanding. It covered all the costs of the project. We also received 2.4 million to remodel our existing uh 15 bed unit which was built in the 1960s and is dire need of renovations. Bamber says that the decision to expand the program is a testament to the community and their desire to improve mental health services across Yakama County. um the community has come together over the past several decades to really address and prioritize uh behavioral health services for the county. All the social and health service organizations across the county have been working um tirelessly to address the needs and improve access. She credits the behavioral health team for their dedication to the community. They are a trauma-informed uh behavioral health team that serve the most vulnerable population every day um within the community and we are just so proud of all the work that they do through individualized services and support from the local community. Estria Tapenish Hospital looks to bring highquality behavioral health care to the Yakama Valley. The new behavioral health unit will increase the number of service beds from 14 to 29. The clinic is located at 502 West 4th Avenue in Tapenish and will offer services 247, 365 days a year. Well, thanks much Aiden. That’s going to be a big bonus to the community. Appreciate it. [Music]
