Meet Andrew Butchart, DO, Rogers Behavioral Health

how’s the DAV go I’m Andrew butchard I’m a board certified Child and Adolescent psychiatrist and the medical director at the Adolescent OCD and anxiety Center here at Rogers Behavioral Health I’m double board certified in both Child and Adolescent and adult psychiatry did my residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin and fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin where I was the chief fellow I’ve been working in the residential setting here at Rogers for just over 10 years before that I’ve worked in a variety of settings including outpatient child adolescent inpatient intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs so I think the experience in those multiple settings affords me a really nice perspective of what we can manage in the residential level of care I’ve been working with adolescence since I was in college and really enjoy the energy that youth bring and the opportunity to be a part of their emerging identities and figuring out their paths in life I would like my residents and their families to know that as a parent myself I can appreciate the complexity and trust that it takes to decide to come to the residential level of care uh I recognize it’s not a decision that any family makes lightly I myself have children and really enjoy being involved in their lives right now it’s all things Youth Sports from a spectator standpoint and also a little bit of coaching so uh can definitely relate to the family experience and what it means to be pulled from those activities but at the same time being able to do some pretty important treatment work so kids can get back to those activities we’re asking for more out of you because we believe in you the way a teacher who can see what you’re capable of will challenge you to put in a little extra effort or coach will challenge you to put in a little bit of extra effort so the results come out on the field definitely use that analogy a lot with residents I work with I feel fortunate to lead a team who’s had an impact that families value for months and years after they leave the program I’ve gotten updates recently from people who have left the program 2 years ago 5 years ago so to be a small part of helping them apply tools that help them manage their anxiety is incredibly rewarding and the idea that families choose to stay connected with us for years after they’ve left the program is amazing
