LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The Mental Health Coalition of Greater La Crosse believes the key to better mental wellness might be as simple as putting down your smartphone.

The organization launched its “Be Here Campaign” this month to address the growing connection between excessive cell phone use and declining mental health. The initiative encourages community members to disconnect from their devices during Mental Health Awareness Month in May.

The campaign features an online calendar with events and mindfulness activities designed to help people reduce phone dependency. Activities range from meditation sessions to outdoor experiences that encourage participants to engage without digital distractions.

The coalition’s efforts will culminate on May 21 with the 13th annual Mental Health Awareness Celebration. The community event features a one-mile walk, refreshments, a community resource fair, and presentation of the Shining Star Award.

Community members can access the full calendar of events through the Mental Health Coalition of Greater La Crosse’s website.
