TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The Texas Department of Agriculture has launched the AgriStress program, a crisis hotline dedicated solely to agricultural, forestry and fishing workers.
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller began the program to address stressors unique to the agriculture industry, which has some of the highest fatality rates and injuries across all age groups in the state. The industry also has the highest rates of suicide.
The AgriStress hotline was created to break the “tough guy” stigma that keeps agricultural workers form seeking mental health help – and bring resources to those who are unlikely to travel to cities for assistance. The hotline has already helped more than 300 Texans across 114 counties manage work-related stress.
Stress impacts us all differently, but there are signs to watch for. Those include a noticeable decline in someone’s appearance, losing interest in social activities or hobbies they used to enjoy, increased chronic conditions or illness, and drastic changes in mood or behavior.

The service also connects callers with mental health providers and other resources to suit their needs.
