CALEXICO — The Imperial Regional Detention Facility recently partnered with the Calexico and surrounding communities to host the 2nd annual mental health fair in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month.

Mental Health Awareness Month is celebrated annually in May to help break the negative stigma that surrounds mental health. The mental health fair was held at the Imperial Regional Detention Facility, with several nonprofit organizations, businesses and resource centers also present. Some of the organizations that hosted booths include Sure Helpline Crisis Center, Calexico Wellness Center, the Mexican Consulate, Imperial Behavioral Health Center and other local community colleges and businesses.

“Thank you to all of the local organizations that continue to support the local community that assist the facility in raising awareness for mental health,” said Imperial Regional Detention Facility Administrator Jeremy Casey. “Again, this year, we had an amazing turnout from local organizations. It amazes me every year to see the support and passion for the community. The facility staff really care about those in the community and in our care.”

In partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Management & Training Corporation (MTC) has operated the Imperial Regional Detention Facility since 2014**.** MTC is committed to providing a safe, clean, caring and productive environment for residents throughout their short stay at Imperial.
