GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The free course teaches community members how to recognize when someone may be facing a mental health or substance use challenge and how to be their first source of support. It’s funded through a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

The 8-hour course teaches key skills to help someone in a mental health crisis. Mental Health First Aid is designed to give members of the public key skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Just as CPR training helps a person without medical training assist an individual experiencing a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid training helps a person assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis.

Upcoming virtual classes are on June 10, July 14, and Aug. 4. The classes run 8:45 a.m. – 5 p.m.

To register for any of these classes, email Robyn.Ellison@prismahealth.org.
