TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Hundreds gathered in Toledo Saturday morning to support mental health awareness and help break the stigma surrounding mental illness.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Greater Toledo hosted its annual NAMIWalks event at Glass City Metropark, with organizers saying about 600 people were registered by 9 a.m. Registration remained open ahead of the 10 a.m. start time.

Participants took part in 1- and 3-mile walk options as part of what NAMI calls a “National Day of Hope.”

“This is our 21st National Day of Hope,” said Mariah Corner, executive director of NAMI Greater Toledo.

Her message to anyone affected by mental health challenges: “Look around — you are not alone.”

Donations to support NAMI Greater Toledo’s no-cost programming can be made through July at namiwalks.org/GreaterToledo.
