GASTONIA, N.C. – A suspect is in custody after a three-hour long standoff in Gastonia. It ended around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon on North Pryor Street, near downtown.
Police say 23-year-old Khalif Bigelow was experiencing a mental health crisis when he began shooting from inside a house toward homes across the street, including a home school. That prompted a response from the Gastonia Regional SWAT team.
Officers ended up deploying non-lethal tear gas to get Bigelow to surrender peacefully with his mother, who was also inside the home.
