More than 140 people attended Coplin Health Systems’ Mobile Health Unit launch event April 30, at Homecrest Manor in Parkersburg.

The free event introduced residents to the mobile health units and the services they provide. Attendees were able to tour the units, and families with elementary school-aged children received free copies of the children’s book “Going For A Checkup: A trip to Coplin’s Mobile Health Unit.”

The Parkersburg Housing Authority partnered with Coplin Health Systems for the event, and the Sisters of St. Joseph Health and Wellness Foundation provided funding, according to a Coplin news release.

Homecrest Manor was selected for the first event as part of Coplin’s effort to expand access to health care services in local communities, the release said.

“We are truly looking forward to being part of the Homecrest Manor and surrounding community,” said Sarah Casseday, director of behavioral health for Coplin Health Systems. “We want to bring quality primary care and behavioral healthcare services, as well as services that are informed by the residents who know their needs best. We are excited to partner in this way and are looking forward with excitement towards the future.”

The mobile health units are equipped to provide services including routine primary care appointments, women’s health services, sports and work physicals, basic dental exams and behavioral health screenings.

The launch event is part of a larger partnership with the community, according to the release. Mobile health unit visits are scheduled throughout the summer at Homecrest Manor to provide primary care and behavioral health visits, along with educational activities and classes.

The units are scheduled to visit Homecrest Manor twice a month, with weekly summer visits from the behavioral health team.
