Because all that institutionalized trash you just referenced with all the square ass people who have no real life experience. This is based on the fact that they had the ability to stay in school, pay for it, get good grades and become a Freudian sheep. This tells us they have a great operating nervous system which is indicative of the fact they don’t carry a lot of trauma causing dysfunction and interruption which tells us they don’t have a lot of experience in the real world dealing with struggle. I prefer the fringe character who is self possessed and self understood through the real trials and tribulations this life has offered many of us. I prefer a critical self thinker to mirror and bounce off of instead of an institutional clone who like a nazi just repeats systems and standards that don’t apply to everyone.
Don’t go see a therapist!! Most of them don’t do shit that’s substantial and effectual.
Talk to people who have actually gone through and transcended the issues and traumas your working with!
Yeah not a huge fan of this one. I've been in some hot water…i put so much trust unto therapist with little success if any…i found someone who was struggling with similar issues, i read a few books, gained some knowledge, mustard up alot of courage now im living life again no therapist taught any of what i know now. When it comes to licensed therapist compared to someone who has lived and experienced negative and comes out well again this is going to win 9 times out of 10 imo
Therapist helps with your past and a Mental Health Coach (certified) jelps with your present and future. They should be working in tandwm with each other to be fully effective! If you're in therapy, at some point you need to get a MHC too!!
Not in the stage of Virginia, it's not true. A mental health coach (Qualified Mental Health Professional / QMHP) are required to hold a bachelor's degree and 80 hours of human services and mental health college level coursework. And you have to be registered with the state. QMHP in Virginia may not work independently and must operate under a licensed mental health professional.
As someone who worked in the higher educational field for 12+ years, it would be silly for me to negate the value of a formal education. That being said, I’ve been able to make lasting changes in my own life thanks to the help of mental health coaches more so than any therapist I’ve met with.
“Do no harm” is the foundation of ethical practice. You can do a lot of harm not having the proper education and credentials! Some of these individuals I’ve seen marketing themselves online get dangerously close to misrepresentation of qualifications, which is illegal. I believe it’s important to support and guide clients to their own decisions, and if they believe it’s what’s best for them, I support that wholeheartedly! A therapist’s relationship with their client is fiduciary, meaning that they act in the best interest of their client (though there are limitations to this depending on risk and harm). My concern is the level of vulnerability individuals have when they’re seeking support, and the predatory nature of what I see available online. Competency can never be justified with a degree, however, it demonstrates that the person you’re seeking services from has worked the steps and gained the training they need to do so by legal standards. They’ve put time and effort into gaining and maintaining their licensure. At minimum, they’ve demonstrated it’s worth it to them to be properly qualified because they care about the wellbeing of their clients!
A mental health coach doesn’t HAVE to have had years of formal education within this space, it doesn’t mean they haven’t had education and training. What you also get from mental health coaches is a broader range of experiences and backgrounds that can be beneficial in finding those with genuine empathy, rather than those trained in techniques to show empathy. All you need to do is ask the mental health coach what their background is, speak to them and decide if they’re someone you want to work with. It’s not an either/or and it’s not simply that one is better than the other.
All this video shows is a guy that doesn’t understand what mental health coaches are and do. It shows someone that needs educating outside of the formal route. It shows someone with a genuine lack of awareness and a closed mindset.
A competent mental health coach could be a therapist who understands the content and legal differentiation between coaching and therapy…and then refer clients to therapy as needed.
In NJ… Licensed Professional Counselors need 4800 hours in a minimum of 3 years. While I'm a Licensed Therapist, I am also a Mom Coach, as that work is different than working on a diagnosis in therapy.
😂 biased much? I get it you're defending our industry for the integrity. There are certain truths but still. No balance in your explanation. I wouldn't want a therapist who's triggered or biased. Sassy is over simplified…
There is a program for training mental health coaches. Which also has a tuition fee. Which they get a certificate for on completion. Its not just some uneducated street person. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
Yes, it is illegal to practice psychotherapy/counseling without a license (even if you're doing it in the guise of "coahing') because it is a protected professional title (and scope of practice) and engaging in it without a license can lead to severe penalties like fines, cease-and-desist orders, or even criminal charges. Also, licensing ensures that individuals providing mental health services are qualified and that the public is protected from unqualified practitioners. The specific penalties and regulations can vary by state, but the general rule of needing a state license to practice psychotherapy/counseling is consistent across the country. Period.
Licensed Therapist, means you paid money for a piece of paper. That’s about it. I don’t have a master’s in psychology, but my experience living with it far outweighs anything you can read in a book. All the points that were listed for a “licensed “ therapist are just that, they are licensed. So they paid fees to get a license and followed steps, but it doesn’t say how many people they helped or that they are better, just that they paid for a license. Hollow comparison.
Wait until they get their first truly self-harming or psychotic client. When they don't have the legal ability nor experience to involuntarily place someone in a Crisis Stabilization Unit when needed. People that you thought you screened properly can easily decompensate in treatment as the real issues are unearthed. If that client truly hurts themselves or someone else the "coach" will be in a legal nightmare. That's what can happen when you try to practice a profession without a license. You think that your clients are 100% honest with themselves and with you about why they come to see you? Do you think that they are fully aware of what's going on with them? You can't LARP yourself into doing work with mental health clients. You're in over your heads. The worst part is that you think that you are not. You just can't hide from liability because you're not "licensed therapist." There will be criminal and civil liability.
Also, "Coaches" are not legally bound to confidentially by HIPAA. There is an insurmountable difference between swearing that you will be confidential than being criminally and civilly legally liable, according to the law, if you are not.

Well, I’d go with the mental health coach….
Why?

Soma Mukhopadhyay discovered RPM which is making miracles which no other so called psychologists and therapists could do to autistic people
My therapist suggested a mental health couch or a life coach.

Silly man. Therapists often recommend life/mental coaches.

Why is he sooo stiff on camera?
lol. I’m going to pursue being a mental health coach now and I’m going to make it a point to help more people than you. Thanks

I would trust somebody that has been wayyyy less indoctrinated by the educational system than you!

I'm an LPC and my biggest career barrier is being male. I'm not exaggerating.

Herm…… Neither!!!!!!
Mental health coach because they didn't go through all the brainwashing of the system and they have an open minded approach.
My father was a cardiologist and the guy would laugh at anyone who didn't have a doctorate but he was out of shape and not fit at all and a diabetic.
