KENNEWICK — A new inpatient behavioral health facility is opening in the Tri-Cities region, filling what local officials call a critical gap in regional mental health and substance use treatment.

The Columbia Valley Center for Recovery (CVCR) will open tomorrow (Saturday), operator Comprehensive Healthcare has announced. The purpose-built center marks the region’s first inpatient facility dedicated to short- and long-term behavioral health recovery.

The center will operate under a “No Wrong Door” model, allowing individuals to access care regardless of their condition or ability to pay. Patients can walk in, call emergency services, or be brought directly to the center by law enforcement, a process designed to ease pressure on local emergency rooms and first responders.

“The facility brings intensive support closer to home, so people can access care in their own community,” Comprehensive Healthcare CEO Jodi Daly said.

At full capacity, the center will run four primary programs: a 24-hour crisis relief hub, a 16-bed crisis stabilization unit, a 16-bed co-occurring residential treatment center, and a 16-bed secure withdrawal management program. The residential treatment and crisis stabilization units will open immediately, while the remaining programs await final state pharmacy licensure.

The project is the result of a multi-year partnership between Comprehensive Healthcare, Benton County, and the Benton Franklin Recovery Coalition.

Benton County Deputy Administrator Matt Rasmussen called the facility a meaningful investment. “We believe it will make a lasting, positive impact for years to come,” Rasmussen said.
