What’s so funny about mental illness? | Ruby Wax

Diseases of the body garner sympathy, says comedian Ruby Wax — except those of the brain. Why is that? With dazzling energy and humor, Wax, diagnosed a decade ago with clinical depression, urges us to put an end to the stigma of mental illness.

  1. I'll tell you right now, laughing at your own pain is therapy. I have laughed at every psychotic break and will continue. It's only scary in the moment but after it's hilarious😂. Try it out

  2. Just one look at her and you know she is depressed, that short hair do is always a sure sign of a damaged woman 100% every single one of em.

  3. I like to believe that the science behind depression is essentially how the devil (not even worth a capital in his name for his bs) (im also not sure what the right term would be for when a mental health problem begins aside from "trigger" which isnt always the case so I will say) evokes (correct me if im wrong) that issue based on the stimuli around us and the events in our lives. It truly is an awful thing, and I wish it was as simple as "praying your symptoms away" like some people think. But, it's not. It requires genuine medical treatment, and it doesn't get enough attention like that. It's so unbelievable, and I hope to bring more light to depression and try to bring faith into my studies as well. God bless all of you who suffer any mental health problems, and may you find the treatment you need to manage your situation.

  4. The audience is like a morgue. I think because I also inherited the lovely mentally unstable gene I just totally get her. I’m sat here pissing myself 😅❤

  5. NAMI please advocate for mental health treatment and diagnosis to be changed here in the U.S. The medical system here creates a dependency on medicine that doesn't work and doctors who don't help but who care only about their money.

This is how the U.S. makes lifelong customers of patients who are mentally sick and need medication. Patients like myself want a cure, not a life time of treatment! Stop treating people like myself at psychiatric hospitals like animals where you lock us inside the hospital until we take medication and keep us dependent on your medical system indefinitely.

The Lanterman–Petris–Short Act needs to be changed and abolished as the law for how people are treated in the mental health system. I was abused in the psychiatric hospital: taken against my will, striped of all my belongings, forced to take antipsychotic medications as a condition to leave, and locked in the psychiatric hospital facility indefinitely. ABUSE and INHUMANE treatment! Please world, care about this subject because one day you might or someone you love might go there for your "mental crisis" And they don't treat you well.

As a customer, a client, a patient…whatever you think fits best, my review of this system is negative, with low ratings, and poor review. You never want to go here. The mental health facility and program is abusive. These people can't cure you. They just care about checking into their job to get more money than the other professions. This isn't the place to go for healing or to feel safe. On the contrary, when I had a 51/50 hold, and 52/50 hold, I felt like my life was in danger because other people claimed to know what was best for me, which isn't true for a bunch of greedy people who I don't know, and who don't know me!

  6. Mental illness is based on unforgness. Just as faith in God and healing with God is based on love and forgiveless. It know complex equation saying in food today causing. So I agree that you so so angry still. Who cares about sugar dear or chemicals woman in food. If we reject the bible an it's the prayer. This God our Lord Jesus Christ is equipment for the cure for every age and century. Seek him seriously and stop joking because that is stupid and foolish

  7. At last someone making sense of my manic depression.instead of suspecting everything I say or think is delusional. That my mind is suffering and I am not a liar
