Behavioral health software company Kipu Health has completed its largest acquisition to date.
Miami-based Kipu Health closed a deal on April 16 to acquire Team Recovery Technologies, a patient engagement and alumni program software provider. The company also provides consulting services to help behavioral health providers grow these programs.
Carina Edwards, CEO of Kipu Health, told Behavioral Health Business that the Team Recovery Technologies acquisition was the company’s largest so far in terms of purchase price. Edwards declined to comment on the acquisition’s price tag.
“The thing that we really acquire with Team Recovery is the knowledge of how to successfully build and run and manage an alumni program,” Edwards told BHB.
The acquisition followed a very close relationship between Kipu Health and Team Recovery Technologies. Founded in 2021 in Draper, Utah, the Team Recovery concept, technology and know-how originated within the alumni program of Renaissance Ranch Treatment Centers. Team Recovery cofounders Preston Dixon and Colton Morgan are also executives at Renaissance Ranch.
Renaissance Ranch was a “very long-term customer of Kipu,” Edwards said. Team Recovery Technologies has about 125 customers; 75% also use Kipu Health.
Previously, Kipu Health had the ability to resell Team Recovery Technologies’ services on Kipu’s contract. “They were embedded already with our services and go-to-market teams,” Edwards added.
The acquisition better integrates Kipu Health and Team Recovery Technologies’ services to improve customer experiences. It also gives the company better control over product quality and future actions. In addition to scaling Team Recovery further, Kipu will also help customers with development on top of software for patient engagement.
“It’s so silly to say 1+1=3. But in this case, it actually did,” Edwards said.
Kipu Health’s software is designed for addiction treatment centers, mental health facilities, eating disorder clinics and opioid treatment programs for multi-state enterprises. Its software suite includes customer relationship management, an electronic medical record, revenue cycle management and governance, risk and compliance.
Edwards joined the company as CEO in 2023.
This is the third acquisition Kipu Health has announced over the years. Previous to this deal, Kipu Health acquired Hatch Compliance in July 2024; the deal was announced in September of that year. In 2021, Kipu acquired Avea, a revenue cycle management company.
The deal also comes at a lively time for behavioral health-focused software. Several investment rounds have hit the mainstream over the last few months. Here are a few highlights:
— Tava Health, a mental health enablement platform, raised $40 million in its Series C.
— Trayt Health has raised $7.17 million to streamline integrated care.
— Jimini Health raised $17 million for its AI mental triage and support chatbot
