AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – National Fentanyl Awareness Day aims to save lives by educating the public about overdose risks and prevention.
Counterfeit and prescription pills, as well as laced or tainted drugs, can lead to an overdose. Narcan is a medication able to reverse the effects of an overdose.
Serenity Behavioral Health held demonstrations on how to administer Narcan, as well as provided fentanyl test strips and education materials for preventing an overdose.

“Whenever we can raise awareness or increase connection to universal supports or resources in the community, that’s why we’re here,” said John Moore, clinical director for Serenity Behavioral Health System.
Narcan is now widely available without a prescription. Health experts say having it around can save a life when seconds count. Narcan is safe to use, and if somebody is not having an overdose, Narcan generally won’t hurt them.
