During Mental Health Awareness Month this May, San Antonians are recognizing that mental health is not only vital to our personal well-being, but it’s also fundamental to the strength and health of our community as a whole.
Everyone struggles sometimes. Whether it’s managing stress, processing grief, overcoming addiction, working through family dynamics or practicing self-care in a world where everything competes for our attention, the path to mental wellness looks different for each person.
This month, we’re highlighting 124 local experts — counselors, psychologists and social workers — looking to walk this path alongside individuals ready for support. These dedicated professionals offer specialized care across a spectrum of needs, ensuring that whatever your situation, there’s someone qualified to help.

How The List Is Made
Using an online survey, San Antonio Magazine solicited peer nominations from licensed mental health professionals in the greater San Antonio area, asking them to nominate up to three mental health professionals they would trust with their family’s or their own mental health.
To ensure the nomination process is verified and peer-based, full contact information was requested and professionals were asked to limit their nominations to professionals with whom they’ve worked or witnessed in practice.
San Antonio Magazine and our verified data partners then tallied the nominations and finalized our list of 124 mental health professionals, ensuring that all nominators and nominees have an active license. The list was then reviewed by third-party fact-checkers.
Mental health professionals do not and cannot pay to be a part of the list, as it is editorial content. We recognize that many amazing professionals are not included on this list and this is only a sampling of the array of talented professionals in our city.
