MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The Arc of Montgomery, a local chapter of the Arc of Alabama, is closing effective today, after losing certification from the Alabama Department of Mental Health.

Executive Director of the Arc of Alabama Tim Cooper said the ADMH investigated several incident reports connected to the Montgomery chapter. He added the department asked the Arc of Montgomery to rectify issues, but it did not do so.

Cooper said the organization served more than 100 people, including support for group homes for people with disabilities.

The organization is being disaffiliated from the Arc as a local chapter. It was given a 30-day notice to stop using the Arc name by June 4.

The more than 100 people served will be sent to different providers, including other groups within the Arc. Some will stay in Montgomery while others will be sent outside Montgomery based on their needs.

WSFA 12 News has left messages with the Arc of Montgomery but have not heard back.

The ADMH has said they are looking into our request.
