MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Washington County Mental Health is converting a historic granite shed in Montpelier into a one-stop shop for mental health services.
The center will offer mental health, crisis response, substance use, psychiatry and a mental health urgent care for the community.
Leaders said having the hub near the heart of the Capital City will help break the stigma around seeking help. They said the aim of the “Granite Shed” is to give people services ahead of time so they don’t end up in the emergency room.
“For us, we think this is a big part of the solution. Warm handoffs between clinicians, support for what people need in that moment, and then being able to move them through the different services,” said Beth Sightler, the CEO of Washington County Mental Health Services.
The new center is a partnership between Washington County Mental Health, the Health Department and UVM Health.
They still need to renovate the space, but hope to have it open by next summer.
