Second Wind Counseling, led by Tammera McClenton, merges therapy with mental performance coaching to help individuals heal while pursuing personal growth.

DALLAS — A new counseling and mental performance practice is aiming to help individuals push through life’s most challenging moments by focusing on both emotional healing and personal growth.

Second Wind Counseling and Mental Performance, led by licensed professional counselor supervisor Tammera McClenton, is built around a concept familiar to athletes: the idea of a “second wind.”

In sports, it’s the moment when someone pushes past exhaustion and regains energy and focus. McClenton says that the same breakthrough can happen mentally and emotionally.

“Healing doesn’t mean you stop striving for greatness. I believe people can heal and still pursue the life they’re called to live,” McClenton said in a statement to WFAA.

With more than a decade of experience, McClenton works with individuals, athletes, and high performers navigating anxiety, trauma, and life stress. She holds a master’s degree in Christian Counseling and says her goal is to help people rebuild confidence, strengthen resilience, and reconnect with a sense of purpose.

The practice blends traditional therapy with mental performance coaching, offering what McClenton describes as both support and direction. She says clients are encouraged to show up as they are in a nonjudgmental, compassionate space, while also being guided through challenges in a way that promotes growth.

Second Wind Counseling uses evidence-based approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and trauma-informed care.

The practice focuses on a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, anger management, and the impacts of isolation and life stressors. The goal, McClenton says, is to help clients feel more grounded, restored, and confident as they move forward with greater clarity.
