The City of Fairbanks is inviting the community to come together later this month for a Mental Health Awareness event focused on support, recovery, and community partnerships.

The gathering is scheduled for May 29 at Fairbanks City Hall on Cushman Street from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

City officials say the event will focus on compassion, awareness, recovery, and action surrounding mental health challenges in the community.

Mayor Mindy O’Neall says mental health impacts many areas of daily life, including public safety, housing, education, addiction, homelessness, family stability and the economy.

The program will feature behavioral health professionals, first responders, peer advocates, local organizations and residents. Speakers will include representatives from crisis response and behavioral health groups, along with individuals sharing their lived experiences.

The city also plans to highlight partnerships involving emergency services, community paramedics, crisis intervention providers and law enforcement.

Sharon Hildebrand with the Tanana Chiefs Conference is expected to speak during the event as well.

Organizers say the goal is to reduce stigma, encourage conversation and strengthen support systems for people facing mental health challenges.

The event is free and open to the public.
