As Mental Health Awareness Month wraps up, New Day Recovery of Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems hosted a public event in Saltville aimed at connecting residents with support close to home.

The mental health fair introduced community members to mental health resources available across the region. Activities were set up for guests, and free lunch was served for anyone participating. Caregivers were on hand to help people get in touch with the appropriate agencies, while also working to destigmatize mental health struggles.

“The goal for today is to create connections, foster relationships within our agencies here in Southwest Virginia, and to give the community a sense of hope that there is help out there for them, and that everyone’s here to help and it’s right here in their backyard,” said Megan Doane.

The event also included Meeka, a service dog who was there greeting attendees and accepting pets.
