MARLBOROUGH, MA — A Marlborough police officer who has spent more than a decade in community policing was recognized this week by the state’s mental health agency.

Officer Keith Moro received the Law Enforcement Exemplary Performance Award from the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health on Wednesday during the 14th Annual Mental Health and Law Enforcement Conference at Boston College Law School, according to the Marlborough Police Department.

Moro is assigned to the Marlborough Police Department’s Community Policing Unit and has served in the unit for more than 10 years, police said. The city’s staff directory also lists Moro as a community policing officer.

The award recognizes officers who collaborate with mental health and behavioral health agencies, help people in crisis reach services and support, and model respect, responsibility and service beyond expectations, according to police.

The Massachusetts Department of Mental Health is the state’s mental health authority and provides access to services and supports for residents with mental health needs. The agency also provides supplemental services for children, youth and adults with the most serious mental health needs, according to Mass.gov.

“Throughout his career, he has consistently demonstrated compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to serving some of our community’s most vulnerable residents,” the Marlborough Police Department wrote in the announcement. “Please join us in congratulating Officer Moro on this well-deserved recognition and thanking him for his continued dedication to the citizens of Marlborough.”
