Maybe we pay here in Germany too much, cause the health system was 2022 in debt with 17 Billion Euro and for 2023 we expect a defizit of 25 Billion Euro. So let´s see how long we will pay for the whole world while a German will wait at least 6-8 month for a term at a specialized doctor.
Having worked psychiatry, the bigger issue in the US isn't even the insurance.
Why I got into psychiatry, is because of the lack of psychiatric professionals who actually give a fuck.
I was horrifically abused as a teen in a psych unit (where I was placed due to "delusions" about being molested by a female teacher.)
No one cared about either of the abuses. As I grew older and started my college degree program for nursing, I took psychology as my minor, with a focus on trauma related psychiatric disorders.
After working in Nursing as a Trauma nurse for a number of years, I switched to psychiatry, and became an NP.
I no longer work on psychiatric care. Because I found that if you actually care about your patients, management will abuse that, and lock you into salaried exempt positions where you can't overtime, but you work 100+ hours a week, for a salary of 50 hours per.
Even military Veterans going through the VA can't get consistent therapy. With my experience, I had five different therepists in one year because they all were being moved elsewhere within a month or two of our first meeting
As a nurse of 20 years I can definitely agree that the insurance driven health care system we have here in the US is a total racquet!! Glad you found some consistent help in Europe and were able to complete your journey!
Man I've been seeing therapist and counselors since I was 10 and I still feel like I haven't really gotten anywhere and of course any therapist that I click with and that actually helps me ends up leaving for any number of reasons. Insurance is such a huge issue, it's so complicated but without insurance it's like 120 , even more if the therapist specializes in your specific mental illness. Unfortunately the only therapy that really worked for me was also the most expensive so… fuck me I guess. 12 years of this and I don't think I'll be reaching the end any time soon.
So wait, you’re saying a society with better access to mental healthcare has less issues like violence and shootings??? Woah…. The US healthcare system seems like a nightmare.
I'm interested by the fact that you say you reached the end of your therapy journey. I've always felt therapy doesn't really have an end point, because even if you have all the tools to deal with your personal issues, sometimes it's just nice to have a completely neutral third party to vent to. So it's interesting to see a different perspective
I'm in switzerland and went to therapy for PTSD. I consider myself healed now. Consistent and good therapy is essential to deal with mental health issues.
I'm wondering how much the pharmacological industry has to do with the difficulty in getting therapy as compared to drugs. One would think drugs would be a shorterm tool, with therapy being longer term foundational aspect. I'm not trained as a therapist, saw a picture in pinterest of a cover for Popular Psychology one time.
I have had MANY psychologists, with MANY Therapy sessions, and non of them took. I finally started reading books on psychology and I’ll tell you what it changed my perspective and I am now able to do things I haven’t before though possible. I am for the 23rd time seeking a therapist, but I know that for me the books helped more than the therapist ever did.
I grew up in Washington in the states and I started learning German when I turned 13 because I had a plan, when I turn 25 start looking for a part time job, keep that job throughout high school and college if I get in, save as much as I can can possibly study abroad and go to school in Germany I want to live in Germany so my plan is that in a few years I will hopefully be able to move
Come on it is not so easy. Most of the time there is a waiting list up to an year just to be able to go to a therapist that is covered by the krankenkasse.
why so many Americans go to terapy? I have seen combat and natural disasters. I have had my part of bad things that hapen to me but i think that s just life and have to be strong. I did my thing and move on as many before me did and many after me will do
indeed we need all collectively psychologist therapy in this country after being traumatized by arabs terror and violence has happened at recents years.

Great you make some one that you don't know, you've never met, take their money to pay for your ego problems. You're a selfish B….
Therapy means you suck at life and regret the poor choices you make and need a hand holder who will help you justify the bad decisions you have made…
Been 4 years and still looking for a therapist in Stuttgart .. ya
So, once you get therapy in Germany, it actually works?
good thing that germans were willing to pay for your therapy.

Somehow, it doesn’t surprise me you needed therapy.

We’ll said.
"Just started her therapy journey" Because EVERY American that can afford it seems to have a therapist.

Consistency is real important
We really don't have affordable clinical therapy in America
I knew you needed therapy
Even with insurance, I can't afford the copays required for every appointment.

Why, you couldn't live here. So you left and that must have been hard to know your a failure.
… and german health care insurance paid for it, right?

Side note – I'm just confused by the concept that the mental health journey as finite. 😅 I see no end to this road.

Tell me you're American, without telling you're American.
American; i see my psychologist twice a week.
I haven't seen a psychologist in over 10 years 😮
And it wasn't even for myself 😅
So proud of you for not giving up and making it to a point where you felt comfortable ending your therapy journey!!
To me therapy is just a scam
Oh, wow, you had mental problems?
why so many Americans go to terapy? I have seen combat and natural disasters. I have had my part of bad things that hapen to me but i think that s just life and have to be strong. I did my thing and move on as many before me did and many after me will do
