well a new mental health facility is coming to Central El Paso near the Medical Center of the Americas just off of i-10 a pass through congressman and Senate and ‘added Beto O’Rourke came to town for the groundbreaking my co-anchor News Channel Nine’s Natasha Paloma joins us live from the site yeah that’s right Daniel El Paso is dead last when it comes to wait times for veteran health care but that’s all turned around within the last month that’s according to the congressman take a listen better than asking the VA how the VA is doing I’m gonna ask veterans how the VA is doing Congressman Beto O’Rourke says El Paso veterans have spoken is only because of veterans who came out to public meetings to town halls and forced those in positions of public trust to do the right thing the right thing he says is opening a new mental health facility 20 veterans a day every single day are taking their lives in this country those veterans who come back with PTSD traumatic brain injury military sexual trauma the clinic coming as the Department of Veterans Affairs rates El Paso as one star in its most recent report the lowest score for veterans access to health care something or Rorick attributed to long wait times but that’s changed recently he said last month our wait times were shorter than the national average we’re doing better than most of the country O’Rourke not too concerned by the VA rating I’ve spoken with the VA secretary about this star rating they tell me that these stars don’t measure everything that we care about for me I’m gonna stay focused on wait times I’m going to stay focused on patient satisfaction I’m going to stay focused on access I’m gonna stay focused on outcomes and that new clinic is expected to be up and running within a year reporting live from central El Paso Natasha Paloma News Channel 9 right Natasha thing
