May is Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this month is about encouraging people to speak up and share their mental health stories.
More than 60 million Americans live with some type of mental health disorder. That’s nearly one in five people. Yet the stigma around talking about it still keeps many people from seeking help.
There is a growing trend you may not have heard of yet called taking an “Invisible Day.” It’s a 24-hour break from everything — no phone, no social media, no work. Just you.
Research backs it up. Unplugging reduces anxiety, improves sleep, and gives your brain a chance to actually rest. And if 24 hours feels like too much, even a walk without your phone is a start.
Dr. Matthew Goodman, a psychologist at the Birmingham Maple Clinic in Troy, joined Local 4 Live to discuss mental health awareness.
