Parental stress is rising in the United States, with 97% of mums and dads of children under 18 reporting stress in the past month, according to research for The Kids Mental Health Foundation. The survey found children’s behavioural issues and mental health were among the top sources of stress, with many parents worried they are affecting their children’s wellbeing. Experts including Dr Ariana Hoet of Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, say parents need support in talking about mental health and building healthier home environments. She advises that small changes, open communication, and parents looking after their own wellbeing can reduce stress and improve family relationships.
