I dont want to criticize these careworkers specifically, because I think they made a really good job especially in the end, not forcing him into getting a haircut when he didnt want to and respecting is autonomy.
However as an autistic person myself I feel that I have to point out that Autism doesnt cause violent behavior, wrong handling and abuse of autistic people, while not respecting their sensory sensitivity does cause these outbursts.
They experience meltdowns because of how they have to process so much in a overstimulating modern world we live in.
It is wrong to blame everything on that condition and it can even be really dangerous, to the point that people want to have research to eradicate autism with eugenic methods, thinking it is an illness rather than different brain development.
Neurodiversity doesnt propagate that neurodivergent disorders arent disabilities. In fact it is part of the broader disability movement because conditions like autism are disorders and disabilities, but they are also different neurotypes that have positive aspects about them for a lot of neurodivergent people.
Even with my deficits I have and my challenges I face in life, autism also gave me so much good aspects of myself, so many strengths and passion for the things I love, my creative mind, my hyperphantasia, feeling everything so intensely including the beautiful things in the world.
How it shaped my personality not being stuck in the mainstream and my extremely strong sense of justice which drives me to make a change, even when its as minor as writing a comment like this.
As disability is a social concept, we should focus on removing barriers from society for disabled people. We need people that are different from the average person to also be able to participate, as far as their disability allows it to. Whether it's physical or neurological or whatever kind of disability, we need diversity as it is enriching us all.
See.. this is WHY we need a cure! The anti cure with their music romanticization of this horrible struggle is out of their reality. They donβt know what they are talking about.
I have level one autism. It's not noticible one bit. But some ppl need to look out for lv 3 autism ppl. They need more help then I have ever needed. God bless β€
